Cyril Kongo turns Airbus ACJ 220 into a flying art gallery

09.24.2021

Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) and world-renowned contemporary artist Cyril Kongo, aka Mr. Colorful, have jointly designed a special ACJ cabin – the ACJ TwoTwenty a special cabin edition by Cyril Kongo.

Cyril Kongo is a part of first generation of French graffiti artists who has strong pioneering spirits and always strives for revolutionary to bring graffiti become a fully-fledged art. Kongo evokes its technical and visual complexity and he describes it as a “savoir-faire” which are shown on variety materials such as bags, scarves, watches, cars, airplanes....His works are exhibited in many art museums such as Grand Palais Museum, Grande Arche la Defense, and famous galleries in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Amsterdam, New York... He has been associated with most with prestigious names in luxury such as Hermès, Chanel, Richard Mille, La Cornue, Daum, ...

On September 23, 2021 in Monaco, Cyril Kongo shake up the typically conservative world of business-jet cabins. With a strong pioneering spirit and which perfectly complements the ACJ's team’s innovative mindset, Kongo has turned the extra-large biz-jet into a flying contemporary art gallery, thus, offering a never-done-before novel ambiance. Kongo’s bright and colorful artwork runs throughout the cabin, from the carpets to a conforter on the king-sized bed designs which brings the cabin design to next level of emotion. Notably the main lounge, which will be partly hand painted by Cyril Kongo, combining carefully chosen branded textures and fabrics, crafted to kindle the sumptuous comfort, space and luxury of your own private art gallery.

The entire signature cabin has been envisioned by the ACJ design team to deliver comfort, connectivity and functionality in one space while Cyril Kongo’s touch brings the cabin design to a next level of emotion.

Recently on October 12, Airbus also revealed the graffiti-like appearance of the ACJ 220. The blue sky is like a canvas that highlights the colorful image of ACJ 2020 aircraft covered with colorful graffiti motifs typical of Cyril Kongo. Mr. Colorful has been very subtle when creating the letters based on the Airbus logo - parallel curves, creating a distinct highlight for the airline's logo. Along with the interior design created by Kongo himself, ACJ 2020 is not only a flying gallery but also a real giant work of art.
According to the international media, the combination of private jet travel and contemporary art, specifically graffiti, is exceptional. There have been collaborations between contemporary artists with vehicles such as cars, but when it comes to luxury air travel, Kongo x Airbus is exactly a unique and avant-garde move. Never before had a private jet incorporated an element of art, and Kongo was also the first artist to set foot in this field. Private jets will sometimes have a fairly similar cabin space, the general colors are beige, gray, and white. But with the artistic touch of Cyril Kongo, the unique element of aeronautical design reaches a new level, providing a unique experience like never before.

This is a milestone not only in artistic career of Cyril Kongo, but also for graffiti art in particular. Once again, Kongo has brought graffiti into a new universe, continuing the journey of bringing this art from the ruined walls of Paris to conquering new standards, reaching far beyond the original strict eyes.
